how to build a usb powered led light

by:Demo     2020-08-12
The instructions below will guide you through the process of making your own USB powered LED lights.
You can use this light as a cool accent light at the back of the monitor/TV, even in the dark as a LED Light module to illuminate the keyboard or books.
In fact, this light works on any USB socket.
In order to build this lamp safely, you need to understand the fundamentals of power and wires.
You also need to feel comfortable with welding.
For someone who is proficient in wiring and welding, the project takes about 30 minutes.
The first step in making this LED light is to purchase and collect the necessary parts and tools.
If you need help finding the part, hover over the part in the picture above to get the part number.
Parts: 5mm LED lights (3. 6 volts, 25 mA)Resistor (68 ohms)
USB 2 5mm LED stand.
Cable tape wire hanger (
Pipe cleaners will also work)
Heat Shrink tube (
Optional but preferred)
Tool: wire stripping clamp with soldering iron and resin core wire cutter (
If the wire is too small for a strip, a blade may be required)
Hair dryer or hot gun warning: do not plug the USB cable into any USB port when building a USB (
You may be shocked).
Warning: place the soldering iron tip on the stand so it doesn\'t burn you or your workstation.
In this step, you cut the USB cable to the desired length referenced from \"(rectangular)
End and identify the wires inside the cable (see picture 1). a. )
With your wire cutting machine, measure from the \"A\" end and cut your cable to 12 inch long (see picture 2)b. )
Peel the external insulation about 1 or 2 inch to reveal the internal USB cable wires (see picture 3). c. )
Find the red one (positive)
Wire and black (negative)wire;
Peel each line about 1 inch with your stripping.
Tip: If your wire is too small to be stripped off by your stripping, place the wire on a solid surface and cut it on the wire with a blade (see picture 4 ).
Note: If you have other wires for your USB cable (Green and White)
Wrap each end safely with tape.
These wires are data cables that are not needed (
See pictures 3 and 5).
Warning: If the blade is used, it may cause serious wounds, please be careful.
In this step, you will connect the resistor and LED light to the USB cable. The red (positive)
The Wire will be connected to the LED light.
The LED LED Light module will also be connected to the resistor, which will be connected to Black (ground)wire.
Tip: If you\'re using a heat shrink tube, slide it over your USB cable now.
This will make it easier to set up later. a. )
Insert the LED light into the LED bracket (see picture 1). b. )
Take the stripped part of Red (positive)
The length of the wire (positive)
End of LED light (see picture 1).
Note: since it ensures a good connection, a tight-knit twist is required. c. )
Attached short (negative)
End of LED light (see picture 1)
Use the same method in Step 3b to one end of the resistor. d. )
Connect the other end of the resistor to black (negative)
Use the same method in Step 3b.
Note: After completing Step 3c, your red lines, LEDs, resistors, and black lines should form a loop, in other words, they should be connected in series with each other.
To ensure the safety and permanence of these connections, they need to be welded. a. )
Insert the soldering iron and wait for the heating time specified by the manufacturer.
When you wait, use your wire cutting machine to cut three or 4 inch of solder from the welding wire shaft. b. )
Once the iron is heated, touch the end of the iron to the LED-
Red line connection for about 10 seconds.
This heats the wires so that they can accept the welding better (see picture 1)c. )
Immediately after heating the connection, bring the solder to the heated twisted connection and touch the end of the soldering iron to the solder to help it melt.
Once melted, remove the soldering tin and soldering iron and let the connection cool for a few seconds (see picture 2). d. )
When solder cooling after for LED-repeat steps 5b and 5c
Resistance Connection and resistance-
Black wire connection.
After you are done, your USB light should look like Picture 3 above.
Before sealing the connection, test them by plugging the USB light into the USB plug-in.
Doing this test before wrapping the connection with tape and heat shrink tubes will minimize waste. a. )
Plug the USB cable into the USB port.
Be sure not to touch the bare wire when performing this check, as you may be shocked!
If the LED is lit and your connection is good, you can proceed with Step 5b (see picture 1).
If the LED is not on, unplug the USB cable and make sure the connection is correct (See step 3). b. )
When you verify that the connection is good, unplug the USB cable.
After the cable is unplugged, wrap the bare wire with tape (see picture 2).
Warning: Due to the risk of electric shock, do not touch or modify the exposed components when performing the test.
To keep the USB light in the desired shape, a wire hanger will be used.
Once the wire for the hanger is inserted, the Heat Shrink tube is secured in place using a hair dryer. a. )
Cut off the wire hanger with A wire cutter so that the wire starts from the \"A\" end of the cable and ends before the LED bracket;
This gives you the option to move the tip of the light (see picture 1). b. )
Once the wire is cut into length, insert it into the heat shrink tube with the USB cable (see picture 2). c. )
After inserting the wire, heat the Heat Shrink tube with a hair dryer until it fits the shape of the wire and cable.
If there are any parts (
Such as wires or cables)
Expose, seal them together with tape (see picture 3).
Your product is now complete and can be used and enjoyed!
After completing the new USB LED Light module, you can now add additional environment on your monitor/TV or see your keyboard in the dark.
