control mix of 12v lights & motors

by:Demo     2020-07-31
Why it looks cool to use old bulbs.
The light quality of old incandescent lamps or fluorescent lamps is difficult to replicate.
I have been using old lights for years
Light bulb for decoration.
I have collected a large number of old lighting fixtures, most of which have been left behind by upgrading from existing projects to NeoPixels.
So I\'m starting over now.
Use aging and inefficient lights in digital control projects.
I occasionally want to power up the old bulb, but I\'m so obsessed with the spectacular LED sequence that I\'m too lazy to bother.
You need more power than Arduino does.
There are a lot of simple circuits and boards, but it\'s not worth the effort or money for me to \"throw away\" items.
Then I realized I already had a couple of motherboards that could power 12v lights
The motor I trustshields. Motor Driver. . . Seriously?
Of course, it is completely excessive to use the motor drive board to power the lamp.
But if you need a quick test of a temporary design (seasonal)
Very convenient to install. .
The motor drive board is actually just a PWM board with an isolated power supply circuit.
This is exactly what I need to safely control these old 12v bulbs.
It\'s even protected. circuits, code-
Reversible polarity for prototyping and easy-to-use screw terminals.
I used the classic Arduino UNO and motorshield for Adafruit because I have a few each.
I built many robots and machines with this combination, so I know they\'re rock-and-roll --
Strong, very strong.
If I haven\'t blown them up yet, I\'m pretty sure some bulbs won\'t hurt them. This motor-
Shield has four power ports to handle the voltage and amps required for this project.
It comes with a software library that can easily control the power level through PWM and even reverse the polarity of the scale.
Other things you need you can power UNO and lights with the same power supply, but it\'s always a good idea to use two power supplies
Independent power supply for Arduino and motor-shield.
A power supply only needs to be strong enough for Arduino.
But the second force.
The power supply needs to be strong enough to run the lights, so a strong 9 or 12v with good current is a good idea.
I call it a 12v project, but all the projects I use in the demo will also be lit up with a good 9v power supply.
If you want to use the battery, the standard 9v battery does not work on some of them, but the 6x AA battery stand provides enough amps for almost everything but the car headlights
Arduino controls the motherboard through software.
The Adafruit board has a special library that makes it easy to write software.
You can use PWM to control the brightness of the bulb and even reverse the polarity of the power port.
The best resource to learn how to do it all is the motor tutorial for Adafruitshield.
The Motor Shield can also power the stepping motor, solenoid, pump and servo system.
So you can put the lights on a servo or motor and animate them.
Many IO pins are still available, so you can still add NeoPixels and sensors to your project.
You may cause the light to react to sensor inputs such as sound or motion.
So even the motor
Shield is excessive for light, and the ability to combine large amounts of input and output in one project makes this combination a great choice for all types of art projects.
This is the oldest and simplest light bulb, but the efficiency is also the lowest.
They produce light by sending so much electricity through filaments that it will glow. (CAUTION -HOT! ! !
These bulbs will get hot.
Don\'t put them near any heat
Sensitive or flammable materials.
They are not suitable for jewelry or clothing items. )
Where can I find bulbsincandesent bulbs, cheap price, various shapes, sizes and styles, easy to find.
The headlights and running lights of most old cars use 12v bulbs. Any auto-
Parts stores or dumps will have light bulbs of all shapes to choose from.
Another source for 12v bulbs is \"low-voltage rail-lighting-systems.
\"They were very popular a few years ago.
Now that the 12 v system is changing quickly, you can find the set in the thrift store.
You can use the bulb and the housing. (
Although the transformer is not required for this project, please keep it for future use. )
You may also find some old 12v flashlight bulbs, but most modern flashlights go out to the maximum of 6 to 9 v.
Most incandescent lamps are not sensitive to polarity, so you can connect positive and negative wires in any order.
However, you have to use the poles so that the current flows through the filament in a complete circuit.
It sounds simple, but there are so many types of bulbs that you need to pay attention to the connection.
If you are cleaning the bulb, it is better to also save the \"socket\" or connector of the bulb.
Some bulbs have pins or blades that are easily connected.
Other people\'s base looks more like a screwin bulbs.
One Rod is the sleeve and the other is the bump in the center of the bottom.
These types of connectors are difficult to manufacture.
Copper straps, large crocodile clips, and even welding are the options to connect these bulb types.
Read the motor tutorial for all Adafruit-
Block before assembling your project.
To connect them to the motor shield, simply connect the positive lead to one side of the motor port and the negative lead to the other.
In the Arduino code, run \"DCmotor \"(
Not \"Stepping Motor \")for that port.
You can use the motor speed function to dim the bulb and make it light.
The light bulb will turn on as the PWM speed increases.
When a gas or powder is excited by a current, the type of bulb produces light.
All of this requires a \"Inverter\" to convert a low voltage DC power supply to a high voltage AC power supply.
If you remove these lights from old appliances, be sure to save the inverter.
The inverter is usually just a small PCB with some components.
It is usually a closet board for the light bulb itself.
These tubes are very bright.
They are basically small fluorescent tubes (
They are also called CCFL).
They used to be very common and were found in the backlights of 2d document scanners/copiers as well as LCD monitors and laptop screens.
You can buy new ones, but the best way is to recycle them from old electronics.
Be sure to get the inverter circuit when you clean the bulb.
Low voltage inverter (usually 9-12v)
DC and convert it to AC with higher voltage.
You can still find the new cold cathode.
Sold under cabinet lighting and car interiors.
But the most interesting way to get them is to clear them from the old scanner/copier or LCD display.
Instructures are full of great tutorials on where and how to clear and run CCFLs.
Related Products: fluorescent lamps and EL-
The line fluorescent rod is very similar to the cold cathode, slightly larger in diameter, and the bulb design is easy to replace.
I still see many fluorescent flashlights being sold as part of a battery powered tool kit.
In this era of cheap led prices, I feel very strange. But old-
The timers still love them and claim that the fluorescent lights provide better, more uniform working light, so they are still on sale.
They are also available in any thrift store of different shapes and sizes.
When looking for fluorescent lamps to be salvaged, the inverter can also be salvaged.
Glow (aka EL-wire)
It is a flexible wire with a length of several meters.
It is more suitable for clothes and furniture.
However, most EL-
The wire inverter operates at a lower voltage at 3 v-4. 5v range.
Instructures are full of EL-great tutorials-wire.
I even wrote one about making a glowing pillow and one (using EL-panel)
Make Pokémon badges.
Connecting the cold cathode needs to supply power to the inverter with the appropriate DC voltage, and it needs to obey the polarity of the inverter input.
The best way is to know the voltage the inverter expects.
So if you\'re clearing the inverters and tubes on old devices, it\'s a good idea to test the running voltage before removing them.
Keep in mind that these portable boards output high voltage AC, so they can be dangerous.
Be careful not to be shocked when working with them.
Most people describe this shock as a bite or a sharp itch.
But the voltage is fatal to some people.
So please be careful and make sure to isolate the inverter in an insulating container.
Read the motor tutorial for all Adafruit-
Block before assembling your project.
The inverter is (usually)
Polarity sensitive, so be sure to connect the positive and negative leads to the correct side of the motorshield port.
The polarity of the port can be changed in the Arduino code.
DC motor (
Not \"Stepping Motor \")
The command to open the motor.
When the code tells the motor (
This is actually a frequency converter)
A polarity is used to run the Port forward (+/-)
, But when the code tells the motor to run backwards, the port polarity is reversed (-/+).
So make sure that the code always sends the correct current to the inverter.
I highly recommend that you always use full power for the inverter.
PWM can be used for the inverter, but I would suggest not to do so.
It does darken the bulb, and in some cases it even leaves a very neat impression --to-
The correct effect at the beginningup.
However, it also makes the circuit sing, call or complain in a dangerous voice.
This can be bad for the circuit or even dangerous.
Led is the new kid in the block.
They are easy to use, small and sturdy.
Note: We are working on 9-
In this project, 12v type LEDs are not the low power 5v that we usually find in Arduino projects.
If you apply 12v to a 5v LED, it will explode and make a bad smell.
These LEDs may not be addressed separately.
In other words, you can change the color or brightness of the entire strip, but not the color or brightness of a single LED.
My personal opinion is
Unless you already have these nine.
12v LEDs, or a very specific configuration is required, I will use Neopixels.
The Neopixels are very bright and easy to use, and you can control each LED better.
They are cheap and available in a variety of formats: strips and rings of various sizes and densities.
Better yet, they have a standard Arduino voltage of 5v or 3. 3v.
If you want a new 9-
12v LEDs are available from various sources.
Variety of 9-family and garden shops-
12v LED lighting system.
They can be used for lighting the home and patio as well as for racks and bars --
So, check multiple departments and find the style you want.
LED lighting is also very popular in cars.
They are used for lighting interior cabins and underwater lightingcar effects.
They are also equipped with very powerful driving lights.
You can even find 9-
Powerful flashlight and 12v LEDs in emergency lights.
It is polarity sensitive to connect LEDsLEDs.
You must connect the positive and negative poles to the correct leads.
Wiring errors may not blow them up, but LEDs will not light up. Single-
The color usually has two lines, one is positive and the other is negative.
There are four lines for RGB lights.
If you have four wires then you need to know if the LEDs are \"co-cathode\" or \"co-anode \".
\"Adafruit has a great tutorial to connect the 12v rgb LED Light Engine strip and Sparkfun has a useful video.
The Adafruit Motor Shield has four control channels, so you can control all three RGB channels, or you can control only one channel.
There are many ways to connect the LEDs to the shield while leaving enough output for the motor and the servo system.
Read the motor tutorial for all Adafruit-
Block before assembling your project.
Led is very compatible with PWM dimming.
Command with DC motor (
Not \"stepping-motor\")
Simply code the \"motor\" to change its speed.
This will darken and brighten the led.
You can create thousands of color combinations using one or three colors.
Keep in mind that reversing the direction of the motor reverses the polarity of the shielded motor port.
I noticed that using the \"release\" command helps to quickly and completely turn off all LEDs.
Go to your resource box, pick up some interesting items and start assembling a beautiful light.
Your spouse or roommate may call your resource box \"junk\"
The nasty garbage collection box.
\"Fortunately, you continue to look for interesting pieces from all the old appliances and electronics you have dismantled.
If there is no collection of resources, start one. LEDs -
The aesthetic and design concept led can provide a variety of types of light, warm or cool, rough or diffuse, as well as a variety of colors.
How you use the led depends on the configuration of the led.
In the example here, we used a 3 \'long flexible strip where the RGB LEDs are about 1 inch apart.
The strip can be cut into 3 xLED segments for separate control.
Each LED is a point light source and most of the light is projected into a narrow cone.
When LEDs are arranged into bars, this creates multiple shadows in regular repeat mode.
However, the straps can be bent into curves or squares and can even be wrapped around objects. Cold Cathodes -
Aesthetic and design concept cold cathode and fluorescent lamp have cold, dazzling light. The cold-
The shade is particularly cool and bright.
They are not as friendly and romantic as incandescent lamps.
They are sterile and authoritarian.
They are long and thin tubes.
It is futile to try to hide their shapes.
Instead, perhaps emphasize their linearity.
Two power cables are often used as suspension devices.
The bulb itself is very light.
They are easy to hang or cantilever in free space to produce compelling results.
Because they are too thin, they can be hidden in very thin places --
Perfect for shelf and edge lighting.
Their light is very uniform and very well distributed on the plane --
Perfect for graphic artworks.
The emitted light is also linear.
\"When incandescent lamps and LEDs shadow from the center point, the cathode projects even light along their length.
So there is no radial pattern and all shadows are projected in the same straight line direction. Incandescent -
Aesthetics and design philosophy: bare incandescent lamps have an innate antique or industrial appearance.
You can find the bulb to make your project look like an old, mechanical one.
Basic incandescent lamps usually have a warm visual quality, which goes back to the old days, while xenon and halogen lamps have more demanding and modern light.
When the voltage or low PWM frequency supply is insufficient, the filament usually emits more light in the yellow/orange range.
The filament is usually visible, which adds to the mechanical appearance.
They are \"Point Light\" lights.
Light radiates outward from the center point of the sphere (
Unless there is a mirror).
This can be useful if you want to illuminate a room and adjacent walls at the same time.
It is also useful if you want to project a wide shadow pattern.
Some design ideas are: project from the plane to space, imitate the old vacuum tube in the radio.
Add a cage around them to get a solid industrial stylish look.
Fun toy house lights can be made with miniature lampshades.
A wide variety of reflector can be used to give them a scary scientific/medical look.
This is all folklore, this is all of it --
Have fun and be creative
Now you know you can easily control 9-
No need to design and weld your own control board, 12 v items are cheap and easy.
When you\'re tired of the lights
You can make robots with the same board! ! !
